Omitting coffee for while? What to expect & how to manage it.

For all of you brave people who have chosen to omit coffee, whether for the short or long term (firstly, power to you). Although great job – coffee has its place, although giving your body a rest from it can do the world of good for your health.

Coffee is a stimulant, meaning it increases activity within your nervous system and brain, alongside increasing the amount of cortisol (stress hormone) and adrenaline within the body. Life can be hectic, between personal, financial, family and relationship stress – you probably have enough cortisol running through your body.

If your life is feeling particularly stressful, or you constantly feel like you’ve got to go go go – then adding more stress through the form of caffeine is only going to exacerbate internal symptoms even more. Chances are, intuitively, you’re omitting caffeine for a reason.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM CAFFEINE WITHDRAWALS:

Now, this is always very independent of the individual. However, caffeine withdrawals can often lead to headaches, increased irritability, tiredness, and lack of concentration for 2-3 days from your last cup of joe. However, this is only short-lived, so please bear with it! You may immediately feel a positive effect. Your body will let you know. However, the benefits of omitting caffeine include –

  • You’ll feel more naturally awake and alert (give it a few days).
  • Your quality of sleep will improve.
  • It can help shift belly fat (cortisol loves living around the lower stomach).
  • It may reduce anxiety and a heightened sense of irritability.
  • You’re more than likely saving on some extra calories within the day.
  • You’ll also be saving money too!

The benefits far outweigh the negatives. You’re doing the right thing. Stick with it!
